Fragmentation Series
In this early series, clearly inspired by surrealism and futurism, Anderson explores the simple geometric shape of an important visual metaphor: the circle. By de- and reconstructing the circle it evolves and changes in a narrative that is as much intellectually challenging as it is visually intriguing. Anderson plays with the concepts of chaos and order as they are influenced by time and change, resulting in evolution: the progress of change.

Oil on canvas
40" x 30"

Anderson cuts the circle into planes and lets it evolve into different shapes and forms, emanating movement and energy from the core of the work.

The circle evolves as it moves upwards, a result of focused energy, a catalyst for change and progress. In this work, transparent layers interact with highly defined contours.

A seminal work in the Fragmentation Series, Evolution explores the constance of change over a sustained period of time. The expanding circles, disconnected from their shadows, are separated by orbital movement - creating order within chaos and vice versa: every area of the canvas is in motion: from free-falls and expanses to rising orbits and diffusions.

Orbital Dissolve (4 of 8). 2010
Oil on canvas
40" x 30"
In this Escher-esque work diagonal lines intersect spheres that solidify, fade and disappear, creating a sense of high velocity movement.

Orbital Disconnect (5 of 8). 2009
Medium: Oil
Size: 30" x 40"
The artist expanded his portrayal of 'complexly simple,' in a highly-technical execution, in which an 'interconnected motion' disconnects from its continuity of form, and from which it’s own motion parallels accompanying and converging shadows. The shadows eventually connect with the form, and the form simply becomes the highlight of the shadow in the distance.

Axistential (6 of 8). 2010
Medium: Oil on Custom 5-Frame Construction
Size: 54" x 54"
An visual narrative of spacial relationships and their forms. Crafted arcs of movement lead to [expanding] circular forms, which have their own chambers and rings of depth. Their three-dimesional form’s shadow reflects against a wall of transparency, converting the shadow from two- to three-dimensional, as it becomes a chambers of light and explores another core. Inverted and juxtaposed tones also give the illusion of transparency in the chambers above.

Ascent in Alteration (7 of 8). 2010
Medium: Oil
Size: 58" x 52"
Encompasses the constant movement amidst chaos and order in the universe. Acknowledging everything from the rotating earth and orbits to the complexity and beauty of nature - within 'consequential symmetry' of its creations - 'exact symmetry' is not the creative goal(but rather, suggested). A pair of crosses - one on 90 degree angles and another on 45 degree angles - intersect on a central 'axis core' as they produce other chain reaction and subsequent forms/results(in nature and the universe). The complexity of [universal] creation and it reproduction itself - including all life forms as well as the physical change of the earth - is put
into visual form.
